The tongue drum, also known as a slit drum, is found in different cultures all over the world. Slit drums were made originally from hollowed logs or bamboo and were struck with sticks. They were used for both rituals and communication and were tuned to two or more pitches. More refinement came when tongues of specific pitches were cut and the drum became known as the wooden tongue drum.
